2009 César Chávez Youth Art Contest Info

Things to Print

What Is It?

  • A county-wide art contest presented by the Fresno County Public Library César Chávez Committee
  • “Draw, paint or photograph a moment out of César Chávez’s life”

When Is It?

  • January 1-31, 2009
  • Winners will be announced and displayed on Thursday, March 5, 2009, from 5-7pm at the César Chávez Youth Art Contest Reception, held at the Central Library in the Sarah McCardle room.

Who Can Participate?

  • Anyone in grades K-12

How Are the Grades Divided for Prizes?

  • The grades are divided into: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12
  • Artist in all four divisions will each win a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place VISA gift card prize
    • Monetary amount scaled by grade level; see entry form for details

What Are the Submission Criteria?

  • An entry form must be attached to each drawing, painting, or photograph
  • Original works ONLY
  • Dimensions: 5”x7” minimum, 24” x 24” maximum
  • One art piece per person/group
  • A publicity release form must be attached to any photograph that includes people.
  • Under the contest director’s discretion, content must be appropriate for display in schools and libraries

Where Should Artwork Be Submitted?

Who Will Be Judging Artwork and On What Criteria?

  • Local artists, gallery owners, educators, and librarians will be meeting in February to choose the winners.
  • Judging criteria includes:
    • Content: Does the art work meet the topical guidelines, and is it original?
    • Style: Is the art work interesting, and does the personality of the artist come through?

When Will Artwork Be Returned?

  • All art work will be returned to the artist’s local library after March 31st, 2009
