Free Fridays: Something Like Fate

Every Friday we will review a new book--sometimes ones that haven't even been published yet--and give an advanced copy of the book away. To get the book, it's simple: just be the first to comment on the review and be sure to tell us which library you'd like to pick up your new book at. We'll take care of the rest!

Something Like Fate by Susane Colasanti

Lani is almost the opposite of her best friend Erin. Erin is part of the “golden circle” of popular kids and Lani would rather spend her time working on making the world a better place. It seems like they shouldn’t be friends, but an accident when they were kids bonds them together.

As they have gotten older they have grown apart. Erin is more boy crazy and willing to take a chance. Lani is more apt to let this phase pass her by and hang out with her friend Blake. This all changes when she meets Jason. Lani and Jason have a connection. Conversations come easy, they enjoying hanging out with each other; the only problem is that Jason is dating Erin. It seems everyone but Erin can see that Jason and Lani belong together. What do you do when you like your best friend’s boyfriend? What do you do when she leaves for camp for the summer? What do you do when he is no longer dating your best friend?

Something Like Fate is a little too earnest for me in parts, but I did like it. It really reminded me of The Unwritten Rule, except not so doom and gloomy. This book is a fun, quick read that is perfect for summer.
