Banned Books Week: Forever

FCPL Staff: Connie
Favorite (almost) Banned Book: Forever by Judy Blume

Here's why I love Forever: it really epitomizes for me why we shouldn't ban books. When I was a kid, I read every Judy Blume book I could get my hands on. For me, Forever would've been just another book about romance, adolescence and growing up. But because my mom--who had never once kept me from reading something--hid the book in her room, it made me want to read it even more. And so I snuck into her room and got it, read it, and returned it. The lesson here? If you want to make sure people read a book, try telling them they can't read it. Works like a charm.
