When We Wake

Every Friday we give a new book away. To get the book, it's simple: just be the first to fill out the form at the bottom of the page. (Note: you must be a Fresno County resident to be eligible for Free Fridays.)

When We Wake by Karen Healey

Sixteen-year-old Tegan is just like every other girl living in 2027—she's happiest when playing the guitar, she's falling in love for the first time, and she's joining her friends to protest the wrongs of the world: environmental collapse, social discrimination, and political injustice.

But on what should have been the best day of Tegan's life, she dies—and wakes up a hundred years later, locked in a government facility with no idea what happened.

The future isn't all she had hoped it would be, and when appalling secrets come to light, Tegan must make a choice: Does she keep her head down and survive, or fight for a better world?

Wow! A bunch of people claimed the book all at the same time. We don't have enough copies for everyone, but a book (it'll be a surprise!) is on the way to Ofelia, Angel, Nathan, and Ariel. Enjoy!

Connie I just wanted to suggest something for free Friday. We're going back to school and on every Friday I wanted to know if you can put the book early in the mourning like around seven or in the late afternoon like at three. Maybe better yet change it to Saturday instead of Friday it would be a lot easier for most of us. I would like to know your opinion on this.

Free Friday has been around for a long time, that means for those going to School in the morning. I went to school, and at times I did get a free book. Thankfully. And to make it 'easier' is not a good idea, for one, it's not meant to be easy. It's based on luck, and to put it on a 'easy' day, makes it lose it's value in a way. It's a great treasure that the library and Connie does, to give away a book. It's not entitlement. I am going to school and working, if it's meant to be then it is.

I think it is a great idea to upload the form earlier on Fridays or on Saturdays this way everyone can participate without it conflicting with class

I've done it before, and that's all that you need to know. Like I said before, it has been like this for 2-3 years, I think. (Maybe more, or less.) Without complaints. Also, let me add, that doing this on Saturday adds conflict. Why? because as soon as it is posted, Connie will get BUNCH of messages AT the same time. She can't always give free books (with a plural)to everyone who sent in the form at that same time. All I am saying is this, the people that are 'suggesting' are probably newbies or something. Because I haven't seen comments like this before, which a sense of complaint. Not only on this post, ahem.

Going back to the OLD posts, you will see that times a book would be posted around 7 am, too. In the end, if Connie changes it, then okay. Imo, It's FREE FRIDAY, not MAKE IT EASY FOR MY SCHEDULE-DAY. School or not, there will always be a person who get's a book. Now there could be a rule set up that if you won one week, then you can't do the next week. I don't know. I never saw problems with it.

Hi guys,
I'm so glad to see new people interested in the books. It makes my heart happy!

We need to keep it on Friday because I don't usually work on Saturdays. Sorry...just the reality of it.

However, your suggestion about posting it earlier or later is well taken. Be on the lookout for both.

Thanks everyone and have a great weekend!

Congrats to everyone that received a book, you deserve it! I was furiously refreshing the page under my desk in auto and eventually decided I should pay attention. Thanks Connie for considering earlier or later in the day!
