Recommendations For Your Summer Reading

When you're not sure what to read next, where can you go for recommendations?

You might ask a friend, or an older sibling, or a librarian, of course, and you can certainly browse reviews and categories on Goodreads for inspiration. However, the Library offers some other great (and free) options that definitely should not be overlooked!

NoveList Plus

Among the most multifunctional of these readers' advisory tools is NoveList Plus. Within the site, you can browse books by genre, appeal, award winners, audiobooks, fiction or non-fiction, and you can access author read-alikes (writers and books similar to those you have enjoyed) and book discussion guides. As a bonus, NoveList Plus's interface is very user-friendly and intuitive. The main page, for example, prompts the searcher with the phrase "I'm in the mood for books that are..." and allows you to find books by clicking through tabs specifying audience age range and appeals.

Once you  have discovered new titles through this tool, be sure to stop by FCPL's catalog , or browse your favorite branch to locate them! If you want it, chances are we've got it

Select Reads

Select Reads helps you discover new books, explore interests, and follow your favorite authors. You can browse book lists by genre (science fiction & fantasy, Christian fiction, etc.) and even get monthly recommendations delivered directly to your email inbox.

Select Reads is also conveniently integrated with Fresno County Public Library: clicking the "Check Catalog" button next to book that interests you takes you to the book's record in our catalog, where you can find information about the book's availability and, if necessary, request to have it delivered to your neighborhood branch.

These are just two of our fine resources for readers. For more, be sure to check out our Books & Reading page.
