Soldier Boy

Every Friday we give a new book away. To get the book, it's simple: just fill out the form at the bottom of the page and you'll be entered into a drawing. The drawing will run from Friday through Sunday and winners are announced on Mondays. (Note: you must be a Fresno County resident to be eligible for Free Fridays.)

Soldier Boy: A Novel Based on a True Story from the Ugandan Civil War by Keely Hutton

Here is the story of Ricky Richard Anywar, abducted in 1989 at age fourteen by Joseph Kony's rebel army in Uganda. Ricky is trained, armed, and forced to fight government soldiers alongside his brutal kidnappers, but over his two and a half years of enslavement, he never stops dreaming of escape.

Here also is the story, set twenty years later, of a fictionalized character named Samuel, a boy representative of the thousands of child soldiers Ricky eventually helped rehabilitate as the founder of the internationally acclaimed charity Friends of the Orphans, as he sets out on the long road to recovery.

Update: Congrats, Emily Z.!
