Banned Books Week starts today and goes through October 3rd. This is a week to celebrate our freedom to read and to bring a stop to censorship. We believe that only you should have the power to determine what you read.
More:
- Have you read Gossip Girl, ttyl, or Perks of Being a Wallflower? Imagine if they were banned. A lot of people want them to be--they made it in the ten most frequently challenged books of last year.
- A high school student keeps banned books in his locker and loans them out to friends.
- Author Ellen Hopkins asks you to join the fight against censorship in her Manifesto.
- Authors like Laurie Halse Anderson, John Green, E. Lockhart, and Maureen Johnson talk about being censored.
- Books that people have wanted challenged--but you can check them out at our library. Or not. It's totally your call...that's what this is all about.

Hooray for banned book week! Many of my favorite books would not be here if not for it!
