Banned Books Week: Twilight Series

FCPL Staff: Faythe
Favorite (almost) Banned Book:Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer

Okay, okay, so Twilight isn't my favorite, but it amuses me that it was one of the most challenged series last year for "Sexually Explicit" (Really? Have they read the books?), "Religious Viewpoint" (Um, what?), "Unsuited to Age Group" (the books are about teens!). It's simple. If you don't like a book, don't read it, but it certainly doesn't give you the right to take that book away from me so I can read it (and then mock it later...kidding!). Twihards, an you imagine your world without having read Twilight just because someone didn't like it and think it suitable?

Twilight is not "sexually explicit," heck, even the honeymoon scenes in Breaking Dawn aren't "explicit." Though I'm not fond of the books, I can think of a lot of books that are much, much worse in that department. I don't think it's good for impressionable young children with no experience in relationships, since I believe that Edward and Bella's relationship is a bit unhealthy and obsessive (he watches her in her sleep in a creeper-fashion and she's wants to die because he ditches her).
