Bless Me, Ultima Read-a-Likes for Teens
The 2013 Big Read book is Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. Set in a small New Mexican community during World War II, this novel relates the dignity, traditions and mythology of Chicano life through the eyes of 7-year old Antonio Márez, his family and Ultima, the old healer who comes to stay with them. And if you like that book, try these others.

I suggest all young men from the valley to read Parrot in the oven. The author is from Fresno and I am always so proud to see someone from the valley make it. Plus I connected with the kid in the book.
