Banned Books Week Virtual Read-Out

Fresno County Public Library will be hosting a Banned Books Read-Out at Betty Rodriguez Regional Library on Oct. 1, 10:00 AM-12:00 noon, but we know not everyone will be able to attend. So that everyone can join in on the fun and celebrate their favorite banned or challenged titles, we’ve decided to do a Banned Books Virtual Read-out as well!

You can participate by submitting a video of yourself reading a passage from a banned or challenged book, like this:

Submitted videos will be featured on Fresno County Public Library’s YouTube channel.

Those who take part in the Read-Out, in person or virtually, will receive a Banned Books Week button. Buttons for virtual readers will be sent to the reader’s FCPL branch of choice.

If you are unsure which books have been subjected to censorship (or why), consult the American Library Association’s lists of banned and challenged literary classics and frequently challenged books.

  • Videos should be no more than 3 minutes in length.
  • Check the sound. Film the video in a quiet area. Too much background noise may make it difficult for viewers to enjoy your reading.
  • Don't backlight. The light should be on your face, not behind it.

Submit Your Video

Use this web form to send us your Read-Out video. You can upload videos now and during Banned Books Week. You are also welcome to post throughout the year.
